I know the hassles of loving from a distance because I’ve tried it before. The inconveniences with time and the varying schedules are just but the few things that roughen things. That kind of love can be hard to sustain – and often is. Still, I’m all for love that knows no bounds, complicated as it may be. Let me tell you a short story of how I found love in a distant land.
A little over a year ago, I began a journey with a couple of strangers, not knowing what it would amount to. Our only relevant connection was an online platform and Jesus. Jesus has obviously been the sole reason, but the platform brought us together. When I joined the UN-ASSOCIATED team, I didn’t quite have solid expectations – only that I would be in the space for six months. My only goal was to keep writing, since my personal blog had taken a back seat for a long while. I needed a creative outlet, but it needed to be different than what I was used to. Further, at the very core, I desired to have an impact on my generation through Christian art – and writing was my best shot at it.
But then God outdid Himself – as is His reputation. I met strangers who strongly saw and appreciated the gift of God in me. They’ve cheered me on relentlessly. The better news is that they had a heart to love. A people in a distant land with no blood relation or existing history, made room for me in their lives. Our stories are now in some ways connected because our paths crossed. My voice gets a platform beyond Kenya, while my heart receives love beyond distance.
Of the many blessings of the year, this is a pretty good one to celebrate. Happy anniversary to a people of God – those who are led by the Spirit, taking Son-ship serious enough to let God’s kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.
May you also cross paths with people who see and celebrate God’s anointing on your life. May they remind you of what Christ’s love feels like. And when you do find them, I hope you take a moment every now and then to reminisce on how big a blessing they are.
The 5th will be the year of grace. I hope you stick around with us. I hope you enjoy this new dispensation of grace that abounds within and without Un-associated. I hope you see Jesus in every creative work we share – to know His love that knows no bounds. I hope you receive Him in your life and become a light in this beautiful kingdom we belong to. As we shine, may your light come too – then you’ll boldly un-associate yourself from everything that has constantly held you back from becoming God’s perfected version.
