Van Goathe: Anime Meets Urban Culture

“If someone were to ask me what I would have wanted to accomplish with art – at first, just nothing, since I grew up in a country where there’s sayings like, “You will be nothing if you’ll pursue art as a profession”. Well, I wanted this anyways, and it’s my passion.

Un-Associated reached out to the Philippines-based artist who goes by the name of Van Goathe. Goathe answered some questions for us, speaking on the origins of his passion for art, and his message to the youth who chose to follow the nontraditional path of practical self-expression through traditional art mediums:

“When I realized that there’s actually no rules and I can express myself with no doubts or hindrances, that is when I fell in love with art. I always keep in mind that my works are the best. Anime is also a form of art that entertains. I’ve liked to watch anime since grade school due to its story-line and morals lessons. Moreover, what attracts me the most is the anime’s sketching of the characters. Basically, I like fashion and anime, I just combined what I loved and I’m using it where I am good at: color combination and styling.”

When asked what he looked to accomplish with his art, Goathe answered: “If someone were to ask me what I would have wanted to accomplish with art – at first, just nothing, since I grew up in a country where there’s sayings like, “You will be nothing if you’ll pursue art as a profession”. Well, I wanted this anyways, and it’s my passion. Now, I’d like to have my very own high-quality fashion clothing brand in the near future.”
