At certain points in life, we may play it safe. Coming out from a period of weariness, we find solace in a place where life seems secure and foreseeable. It’s natural to desire an extended stay in this comfort zone. However, our connection with God ought to transcend mere comfort. A profound bond with Him involves fluctuations, diversions, breakthroughs, and even hurdles. Allowing ourselves to grow overly comfortable might inadvertently steer us towards self-reliance. Gradually, we might rely more on our own abilities than on God’s guidance, settling into a pattern of being a “good Christian” rather than embracing our true calling as trailblazers and way makers. Complacency in our spiritual journey can impede us from fully grasping God’s essence and understanding His ways. Often, God uses our discomfort as a catalyst for remarkable transformations.

So, when a sense of complacency starts creeping into our faith, it’s crucial to recognize that our God is always active. He perpetually orchestrates events in the world, in our lives, and in the lives of others. When our faith becomes too cozy, there’s a risk of relying more on our own understanding rather than on God’s infinite wisdom.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your path straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Jesus is the God of wonder, not just the God who gets you through the day. Sometimes, our prayers might fall into a comfortable routine—thanking God for the day, seeking blessings for our meals, or requesting aid in specific areas of our lives. But do we possess the inclination to delve deeper? Is there a yearning within us to spend extended moments meditating on His Word or sitting in silence, anticipating His voice? During tough times or when we encounter barriers, have we considered fasting as a means to draw nearer to God? These are essential queries in our spiritual journey. God doesn’t beckon us to settle into complacency; instead, He ignites a fervor within us for Him. Each day becomes an opportunity to serve God, driven by His boundless love for us.

I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10

Life’s journey is comprised of moments of steadiness and predictability, yet for us as Christians, settling into predictability isn’t the goal. Our faith rests in a God who possesses infinite knowledge and power. He intimately understands every facet of our beings, perceiving the areas in our lives that require nurturing and growth, often beyond our own recognition. It’s important not to find comfort in a stagnant walk with God. While security exists in our belief in Jesus, our spirits should resonate with a readiness to take bold leaps of faith when called to.

So don’t lose your bold, courageous faith, for you are destined for a great reward!” Hebrews 10:35

Understand that whatever God desires is ultimately for our best. Nothing He does is without purpose or intentionality. If doubts surface, it’s an opportunity to strengthen our faith and deepen our relationship with Him. Seek the support of trustworthy Christian companions, family, and networks. Turn to prayer, asking God to illuminate the aspects of your life that necessitate your attention, ones you might be unaware of. Ask God to reveal the gifts He’s bestowed on you, igniting encouragement to utilize them daily. Start getting back to being on fire for Jesus now. Our calling is to build His Kingdom, anticipating the return of our King to establish His reign!

Our ability to do remarkable things isn’t of our own making but through His power, so let us give praise and actively stand by His promises instead of merely resting upon them.
