Choices are the things we as people make on a daily basis. Some choices lead to good things and some lead to bad things. But at the center of all these choices is we have to make them.
We all have a choice. Many times in life we feel we are in the hands of people, circumstances, and situations. In some instances, this is the case, but for the majority of the time, we are in control of our actions. For instance, even in situations, we feel we aren’t in control of, we actually are. We control if and how this circumstance affects us. It is totally up to you and you only. The Bible mentions in Nehemiah 8:10, “… And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Therefore, my brothers and sisters in Christ, do not allow Satan to steal your joy, because he doesn’t deserve it. Let your joy be in the Lord as you will receive strength to face and overcome all trials and obstacles.
For most of my life, if I’m honest, my happiness and joy relied on how good my life looked or seemed, how people treated me if they liked me or not, and how life was treating me. If it wasn’t treating me well, then I wasn’t well.
As of late, I believe God has been working on me, and teaching me that life on Earth will never be perfect or the way I want them to be forever. Things may be going well for a season and then out of nowhere, your circumstances are the exact opposite in just a snap of a finger because that’s life. For example, grocery expenses are constantly steadily rising, gas was just four dollars a few weeks ago, and now it almost costs the same as my Disney Plus monthly subscription. You can get lost in all of these carnal things that are grasping your attention. But the one thing I forgot in the midst of all of this, and maybe you have too, is that we control how we react to these things. They don’t have to have dominion over us like we think they do.
I feel as though this is why God asks us to focus on Him so much because this leaves no room to focus on the worry or the lack that we feel we may have. Psalms 91:14-15 says, “Because he has focused his love on me, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him in his distress. I will deliver him, and I will honor him.” Focusing on God makes us remember all the great things He’s done for us. It makes us realize how truly blessed we are to have someone like God looking out for us continually.
God is the most consistent character in any book or movie you’ll ever read or see.
How do we know this? Just look back into your past and remember where He’s brought you from and through – things that you would have never thought you’d survive, positions and heights that you never thought you could reach.
Hebrews 6:13-14 says, “For when God made a promise to Abraham because he could swear no greater, he sware by himself. Saying, ‘Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.” So, if God is promising in His own name to protect, provide, and keep you, why fret over the small carnal things of this world?
I’ll leave you with this: We have more power than we think, and we aren’t at the hands of anyone or anything but God. You have to constantly renew your mind (Romans 12:2). Otherwise, it’ll be Saturday, but your mind is already worrying about what is in store for you on Tuesday. We can’t make decisions based on what we don’t see because God is always working even when we don’t think He is. At the end of the day, we all have a choice in who and what we put our trust in. So I hope you continually make the right one.
