THE BIG PICTURE

With you at the center of your focus, everything becomes more clear, and your big picture starts to paint itself.

The idea of “the bigger picture” should always pertain to the best version of yourself. Focusing on the wrong things can make that picture look blurry, getting distracted in life can completely ruin the visions you have for yourself. It is always important to remind ourselves that we must not lose sight of our own personal growth, and in order to do that, it takes a lot of focus.

In today’s day in age, social media has reshaped our society, but it can also be overbearing. Social media makes it easy to succumb to the pressure imposed by the success or achievements of others and make you feel insignificant, underachieved, or unsuccessful. All of these terms are subjective and have as much power as we give it. Social media opens a door of various features that can distract you and take away from your bigger picture. Maybe you even find yourself envying someone for something you didn’t even know you wanted. Focusing too much on the flame of social media can turn your attention to all the materialistic and superficial things of life – money, clout, sex appeal, etc. You become distracted and you lose sight of the big picture in your life.

Regardless of what it is that distracts you from the goals and desires (because it’s not always social media), it is important to focus on yourself and no one else. Katt Williams once said, “you have to look out for your star player, and you’re the biggest star on your team.” With you at the center of your focus, everything becomes more clear, and your big picture starts to paint itself. Focusing on yourself leads to discovering and understanding how you feel, how you learn, and how you achieve. Once you learn about yourself you have the capability to make change and create action. You even are more equipped to help others with their life struggles.

Self-evaluation and exploration is a vital part to growth. While you learn about yourself, you learn how you respond to different life experiences and can consciously make the effort to control, change, or alter certain things in order to best make you happy, or as close as happy as you can.

Remember, focusing on you does not mean being selfish. Nor does it mean cutting all your loved ones off and ignoring the people around you. Focusing on you means limiting every distraction to your personal growth. In your life, maybe focusing on you means spending more time with family and friends, working on your relationships with co-workers, building your teamwork skills. Focus on you means focus on your growth.

This week, try your best to locate the things in your life that distract you from focusing on your growth. Then try fasting from it for a period of time – maybe 12 hours, a day or two? Focus on the big picture, which is the best version of you that there can ever be.
