“I know perfect timing feels like I’m too late, and I know I’m still great in my mistakes.” -Nipsey Hussle

In the catastrophes of life that impact us all, there’s always an hourglass waiting for the perfect time to seize the moment that will awaken us from our misery. However, as impatient people, we often lose sight of that hourglass. That hourglass’ sand seems like it’ll never entirely reach the bottom. The duration has been flowing for an endless, dreadful eternity that is gradually consuming our souls. Our souls feel as if they’ve been isolated into an inescapable state of captivity, but what we fail to recognize is the true conception of what the hourglass is. What is the hourglass attempting to depict? Are those minutes, hours, days, weeks elapsing with the intention of making us feel dreadful? That state of dreadfulness is altered once we can truly comprehend what the purpose of the hourglass is. Simply put, the hourglass is God’s timing.

They say God’s timing never fails and indeed, it does not. The mistake many of us make is believing we can pinpoint the moment when God is going to reveal Himself and relieve us from our anguish & suffering. This procedure and approach will inevitably plummet any possibilities of us flourishing. Our purpose as human beings is to simply live. Living and the experience that comes from living will always be the most fundamental ingredients to learning and inevitably, growing. If we focus on the time, especially how long we feel it’s taking, the time will always be contrary to our desires. Nevertheless, this is not our fate. Through living – and I mean, truly living – then and only then is the only way to align ourselves with God’s timing.

That hourglass will continue to serve its purpose but what’s more important is that we shift our focus away from time as it dwindles and instead, towards our individual and collective purposes. Once we start doing that and start living, God will do His thing and the timing won’t ever feel late. Don’t succumb to the concept of time. That fallacy will misguide you from your whole reason for living. The intention of our existence is either to get busy living or to get busy dying. This is literally within the palm of our hands. If we put forth the effort to refine our mental deficiencies, personal flaws, and bad habits, we’ll see the fruition of our wellbeing to come within our reach. Like Nipsey Hussle says, “Before you run your race you gotta find a pace — Just make sure you cross the line and forget the time it takes.”

Jay-Z became a rapper at 26. Huey P. Newton learned how to READ at 18. Wes Montgomery learned how to play guitar at 19. Steve Nash became an All-Star at 28. God’s timing often appears to be confusingly ambiguous. Despite the lack of clarity and certainty, one thing that remains true: commitment to ourselves will always pay off in the end. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Keep on keepin’ on. If it feels as though you are going through hell, keep going, continuing to endure but know your faith in yourself and faith in God will always prevail. It will always prevail. Believe that.
