THE SIMPLE THINGS

July 20th, 2018

We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s the simple things in life…” meaning that its the simple things in life that could make someone’s day, or make someone feel special or loved. I believe this to be true. As I write this post I’m living a day that consisted of me being stressed about the lack of progress I’ve made on the UA instagram page. I was consumed with the lack of likes and views I got for things I posted that I thought were pretty rad. But apparently they weren’t to a lot of people, hence the lack of likes and views. And look, I know we aren’t supposed to care about the number of likes we get on instagram and I know it doesn’t indicate our value as people. But sometimes I catch myself forgetting all of that, you know? Let’s face it, it feels like crap when we don’t get the recognition that we feel we deserve, and the amount of likes we get is a pretty good measure of people’s recognition of us. So yes, it still makes me feel some type of way when I don’t get enough likes or views on ig. So I was pissed for a bit today.

So as I was implicitly freaking out at my desk today, scrolling down my timeline, I saw that I was on 35% battery life at 3:00pm. That means I needed to charge my phone. However, I didn’t have a freaking charger because I lost it at work a few days ago. So at this point my identity for the day was the charger-less guy with no likes on instagram.

I hit up a lady that apparently handles the lost & found at work, and guess what this woman does next. She emails me back, and I don’t reply because I was working so hard (ehhh kinda) at work. So she pulls up my information on her computer, finds my location, and personally delivers a new iphone charger to me at my desk. Like whaaaat?!

I thought it was a “girl thing” to place your hand on your heart when something heartwarming happened, but there I was, placing my hand on my heart, just speechless. That woman really made my day today. An Iphone charger was all it took. Now I was still upset about the whole “no likes” thing, but I got the recognition I needed today from someone I don’t even follow on instagram.

It’s the simple things in life that could really make someone’s day, so the next time you find yourself searching for recognition in likes, views and even retweets, put your phone down and try doing something spontaneously nice for someone. You could end up making their day and yours all with one act as simple as helping them charge their phone.
