Life can be unpredictable. However, there is one thing you can, undoubtedly, count on – the ups and downs. Throughout life, you will experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, but you will always come out on top regardless. Your lows come in various forms – mental, physical, financial – and sometimes, all at the same time. You go through phases of doubt and ask a lot of questions – questions that will, ultimately, equip you with the answers you need to come out on top.
Being at the top is great, it’s invigorating, it’s sensational until you hit a low. Your highest points in life are results of training completed to get to said stages in life – a stage that you have grown and persevered to get to. The idea that you have to walk before you can run is essential and true because you have no idea what it takes to maintain your status at the top. The components required to elevate parts of you that require the strength to carry you forward are not only crucial, but they’re learned. Imagine trying to be a quarterback for a football team. It seems simple but there are several factors that go into that one throw, such as pressure, accuracy, confidence, strength, and determination. These same factors are required of anyone who is at the top of any field and would like to stay there.
These characteristics are learned by pushing through your lows. While you are at your low, you ask questions that get you thinking about how to climb up the ladder. No one wants to be stuck at their lowest point, but not everyone is willing to put in the work to ascend. Being at a low forces you to find a fierce confidence that cannot be taken away because you acquired it when there was nothing. It forces you to work that much harder because if you don’t, you will continue to have nothing. It forces you to focus because you know that to be successful, you have to keep pushing forward no matter what. It forces you to stay strong because it takes a great amount of mental and physical strength to deal with the pressures of life. It demands that you remain determined and at your best at all times because failure is not an option. Knowing and understanding your strength as well as your struggle creates a sense of humility and reinforces your confidence because you are aware of what you’ve been through and what you’re capable of enduring.
Being at a low isn’t a time of self-pity, but a time of self-development, an opportunity to build yourself back up. It is a time to refine yourself so that you not only soar to new heights but ultimately reach the greatest height – the top. Don’t hate the lows or take them for granted. Appreciate them with the understanding that they’re just preparing you for better things.
